My Perfect Day in Dublin

Written by manager on April 23, 2012. Posted in Food

Temple Garner, Chef Patron, San Lorenzos, South Great George’s Street.

I like Metro Cafe. My son Daniel who’s two and a half has got his own table there, he’s their youngest regular. They’re customer driven and it’s not a facade, they really mean it. After that we might go for a pint in Neary’s at lunchtime. There’s a marble slab at the end of the bar, three people can sit on it looking down into the pub and it’s the best seat in Dublin. Then we might go to Juniors in Bath Avenue and get a bite because it’s the best sandwich in the city. They do four hundred sandwiches out of this tiny kitchen and it’s just brilliant. Then maybe go for another few pints in Mulligans on Poolbeg Street. It’s one of the oldest bars in Dublin, it’s at the back of the old press offices and a lot of journalists used to go in there and various people from the neighbourhood. I think they only serve Guinness, it’s one of those pubs. We might follow that with a mixed grill in the Whitefriar on Aungier Street and then finish the night off with a pint in Toners on Baggot Street, another great old boozer. On a Saturday night you can go in there and see maybe six or seven different kitchen crews slugging their pints after work. The crowd at the bar could be six deep and the lads will send you the pints out over the heads.
