Miss Panti has Pride in Dublin
Miss Panti, Pantibar, Capel Street, Dublin 1
Pride is both a celebration and a statement. A celebration of the gay community, and a statement of intent – a reminder to the city that we are an integral, and vibrant part of it. Just in case the city had forgotten!
The parade really takes over the city centre for the afternoon, stamps the city as gay for a day, and as a participant, it’s fun to be parading down the streets you walk every day, passing the shops you shop in, the pubs you drink in, the people you nod “Hello” to. It has a local significance that is sometimes lost in bigger cities.
Certainly, in comparison to some of the bigger cities, Dublin’s Pride festival has a really great community atmosphere – whether it’s the Pride Dog Show, or the Pride Run in the Phoenix Park, or the art exhibitions, or the Parade itself. It feels ‘real’ and less commercialised than some. And the programme is definitely one of the biggest – there’s a lot going on!
