New interactive Discovery Space at St. Patrick’s Cathedral

The new Discovery Space launched this August 2015 includes a large touch screen table featuring interactive content on the building’s history; brass rubbings; a large jigsaw of one of the windows of the Cathedral; a small reference library; an AV unit; and a number of touch screen computers featuring the Cathedral’s app. The new area fuses the history of the Cathedral with modern technology, with many of the new elements made from 19th Century carved oak pews from the building.

Built in honour of Ireland’s patron saint, Saint Patricks Cathedral stands adjacent to the famous well where tradition has it Saint Patrick baptized converts on his visit to Dublin. The Cathedral is today the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland and is the largest church in Ireland. The adjacent park is a nice respite in the city if you fancy a coffee or picnic break.

The Cathedral stands majestically as a memorial to our historic past. But it stands for much more. A historic cathedral such as this lifts us out of the realm of things and circumstances which change into the realm of things which are eternal and do not change. It gives us a sense of perspective both in space and time and it brings us face-to-face with our faith in God through Christ, who alone can give our lives true meaning and lasting satisfaction.
